Sticks, the handcrafted furniture and accessories company, is combining its two metro retail locations and moving to a new spot in the East Village near downtown Des Moines.
Sticks President Rachel Eubank said the company will close the West Glen Town Center store in West Des Moines on Tuesday. That merchandise will be combined with its existing East Village store when it opens in mid-June in the old Raygun space, 400 E. Locust St. Raygun moved to bigger digs in March to a new building at 505 E. Grand Ave. in the East Village neighborhood.
“We decided to go back to one large location instead of splitting our energy and product line between two stores,” Eubank said.
Sticks was one of the original retailers in the East Village when it opened at the corner of East Sixth and East Locust streets in 2002. Two years ago the company downsized to a smaller space at 510 E. Locust. It opened in West Glen Town Center in 2006.
“We’ve seen expansive growth in the East Village and know this is where we want to be,” she said.
The old Raygun store will be remodeled in the next few weeks. The larger space will enable Sticks to display more of its furniture and accessories. The store will continue to carry items from other American artists, she said.
Artist Sarah Grant started Sticks in 1992. Today she has a crew of artists who help produce the colorful folk art, which is sold at art galleries across the United States and in the retail stores in the East Village. The company’s production studio is at 3631 S.W. 61st St. in Des Moines.
